- Indeed, those who deny Allah’s signs, kill the prophets unjustly, and
kill people who stand up for justice—give them good news of a painful
punishment. They are the ones whose deeds are wasted in this world and the Hereafter. And they will have no helpers. Have you not seen those who were given a portion of the Scriptures? Yet when they are invited to the Book of Allah to settle their disputes, some of them turn away heedlessly. This is because they say, “The Fire will not touch us except for a few
days.” They have been deceived in their faith by their wishful lying. But how ˹horrible˺ will it be when We gather them together on the Day
about which there is no doubt—when every soul will be paid in full for
what it has done, and none will be wronged! Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “O Allah! Lord over all authorities! You give
authority to whoever You please and remove it from who You please; You
honour whoever You please and disgrace who You please—all good is in
Your Hands. Surely You ˹alone˺ are Most Capable of everything. You cause the night to pass into the day and the day into the night. You
bring forth the living from the dead and the dead from the living. And
You provide for whoever You will without limit.” Believers should not take disbelievers as guardians instead of the
believers—and whoever does so will have nothing to hope for from
Allah—unless it is a precaution against their tyranny. And Allah warns
you about Himself. And to Allah is the final return. Say: “Whether you conceal what is in your hearts or reveal it, Allah
will know it.” He knows what is in the heavens and what is in the earth.
Allah is powerful over everything. On the day when everybody shall find present before him whatever good he
did and whatever evil he wrought, he will wish there would have been a
wide space between him and that (day). Allah warns you of Himself, and
Allah is compassionate to (His) servants. Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “If you ˹sincerely˺ love Allah, then follow me; Allah
will love you and forgive your sins. For Allah is All-Forgiving, Most
Merciful.” Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “Obey Allah and His Messenger.” If they still turn away, then truly Allah does not like the disbelievers.
(
This passage cranks up the intensity. It deals with those who actively reject and kill the prophets, the absolute sovereignty of God over power and honor, and then issues a deeply personal, non-negotiable ultimatum: if you claim to love God, you must follow the Prophet.
Verses 21-22: The Serial Rejectors and Their Fate
Those who kill prophets and those who call for justice will get a painful punishment. Their deeds are worthless in this life and the next, and on Judgment Day, they'll have zero helpers—total existential bankruptcy.
Verses 23-25: The Hypocrites of Scripture
Some given Scripture arrogantly turn away when called to God's Book, deluded by their own invented idea that Hell will only touch them for a few days. When the inevitable Day comes, every soul gets exactly what it earned, and their self-made loophole vanishes.
Verses 26-27: The Master of All Power
All sovereignty, honor, and humiliation are in God's hand alone—He gives and takes at will, and all good flows from Him. He flips night into day, pulls life from death, and provides without limit or audit.
Verses 28-30: The Warning Against Deep Alliances
Believers must not take disbelievers as intimate allies over fellow believers, unless genuinely fearing danger. God knows every hidden secret, warns you of Himself directly, and on Judgment Day, people will wish for a vast distance from their own evil deeds.
Verses 31-32: The Love Litmus Test
If you claim to love God, there's only one proof: follow the Prophet. Then God will love you back and forgive you. The equation is simple—obey God and the Messenger, or turn away and fall into those God does not love. No middle ground.
Those who kill the prophets and arrogantly twist scripture are utterly bankrupt, for all power and honor belong to God alone who flips night into day and life from death, so don't form deep alliances with rejectors over fellow believers, and know that the only proof of loving God is following the Messenger—obey and gain His love, or turn away and lose it completely.
