DAY 501: Anfal 45-54

•  O believers! When you face an enemy, stand firm and remember Allah often so you may triumph. Obey Allah and His Messenger and do not dispute with one another, or you would be discouraged and weakened. Persevere! Surely Allah is with those who persevere. Do not be like those ˹pagans˺ who left their homes arrogantly, only to be seen by people and to hinder others from Allah’s Path. And Allah is Fully Aware of what they do. And ˹remember˺ when Satan made their ˹evil˺ deeds appealing to them, and said, “No one can overcome you today. I am surely by your side.” But when the two forces faced off, he cowered and said, “I have absolutely nothing to do with you. I certainly see what you do not see. I truly fear Allah, for Allah is severe in punishment.” ˹Remember˺ when the hypocrites and those with sickness in their hearts said, “These ˹believers˺ are deluded by their faith.” But whoever puts their trust in Allah, surely Allah is Almighty, All-Wise. If only you could see when the angels take the souls of the disbelievers, beating their faces and backs, ˹saying,˺ “Taste the torment of burning! This is ˹the reward˺ for what your hands have done. And Allah is never unjust to ˹His˺ creation.” Their fate is that of the people of Pharaoh and those before them—they all disbelieved in Allah’s signs, so Allah seized them for their sins. Indeed, Allah is All-Powerful, severe in punishment. This is because Allah would never discontinue His favour to a people until they discontinue their faith. Surely Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing. That was the case with Pharaoh’s people and those before them—they all rejected the signs of their Lord, so We destroyed them for their sins and drowned Pharaoh’s people. They were all wrongdoers.

  These verses follow directly from the Badr narrative (v42–44). After describing how Allah showed the two armies to each other as few to accomplish His decree, Allah now gives direct commands to the believers on how to conduct themselves in battle, followed by warnings about the fate of those who oppose Allah and His Messenger.
  The proper relationship between the believer and Allah after a major victory — how to handle spoils, how to obey, how to fight, how to avoid the traps of arrogance, hypocrisy, and love of wealth, and how to learn from the example of the disbelievers who were destroyed before.
  The principle of change
      "That is because Allah would not change a favor which He had bestowed upon a people until they change what is within themselves."
  This explains why the Quraysh lost their favor (prophet among them, guardianship of Ka'bah) and why believers gained victory (they changed from fear to faith, from weakness to tawakkul).
  
  v29 – Taqwa brings furqan, forgiveness, great bounty.
  v30–37 – Quraysh plotted, mocked, spent wealth. They will be heaped into Hell.
  v38–40 – Ultimatum: Cease or face destruction. Fight until fitnah ends. Allah is your Protector.
  v41 – Spoils distribution (khums) for those who believe in Yawm al-Furqan (Badr).
  v42–44 – Badr: unexpected timing, visual miracles, armies appearing small to each other.
  v45–46 – Battle commands: stand firm, remember Allah, obey, don't dispute, be patient.
  v47–48 – Don't be like Quraysh (arrogant show-offs) or rely on Satan (who betrays).
  v49 – Hypocrites mock tawakkul, but tawakkul is true strength.
  v50–54 – Death of disbelievers: angels beat them. The principle: Allah does not change a people's state until they change themselves. Example of Pharaoh as warning.
  
  45    Stand firm and remember Allah    In battle, steadfastness + dhikr = success.
  46    Obey, don't dispute, be patient    Dispute removes courage and strength. Allah is with the patient.
  47    Don't be like arrogant disbelievers    They left Makkah to show off, not for justice. Allah encompasses them.
  48    Satan's promise and betrayal    Iblis promised the Quraysh victory, then fled when he saw angels. He is no protector.
  49    Hypocrites mock tawakkul    They said believers are deluded. But tawakkul on Allah (Aziz, Hakim) is wisdom, not foolishness.
  50    Angels seizing disbelievers' souls    At death, angels beat their faces and backs: "Taste the Burning."
  51    Justice, not injustice    Punishment is from their own deeds. Allah never wrongs anyone.
  52    Example of Pharaoh's people    They disbelieved signs, so Allah seized them. Allah is Powerful, severe in penalty.
  53    The principle of change    Allah does not change a people's blessing until they change what is within themselves.
  54    Repetition of Pharaoh's destruction    They denied signs, were destroyed. All were wrongdoers.
  
  Victory in battle comes not from numbers or weapons but from steadfastness, obedience, remembrance of Allah, and tawakkul (reliance on Him). The disbelievers rely on pride, showing off, and Satan's empty promises — all of which betray them. The principle is eternal: Allah does not change the condition of a people until they change what is within themselves. The fate of Pharaoh's people awaits those who reject clear signs and persist in wrongdoing.
