DAY 473: Baqarah 124-130

  •  ˹Remember˺ when Abraham was tested by his Lord with ˹certain˺ commandments, which he fulfilled. Allah said, “I will certainly make you into a role model for the people.” Abraham asked, “What about my offspring?” Allah replied, “My covenant is not extended to the wrongdoers.” And ˹remember˺ when We made the Sacred House1 a centre and a sanctuary for the people ˹saying˺, “˹You may˺ take the standing-place of Abraham2 as a site of prayer.” And We entrusted Abraham and Ishmael to purify My House for those who circle it, who meditate in it, and who bow and prostrate themselves ˹in prayer˺. And ˹remember˺ when Abraham said, “My Lord, make this city ˹of Mecca˺ secure and provide fruits to its people—those among them who believe in Allah and the Last Day.” He answered, “As for those who disbelieve, I will let them enjoy themselves for a little while, then I will condemn them to the torment of the Fire. What an evil destination!” And ˹remember˺ when Abraham raised the foundation of the House with Ishmael, ˹both praying,˺ “Our Lord! Accept ˹this˺ from us. You are indeed the All-Hearing, All-Knowing. Our Lord! Make us both ˹fully˺ submit to You and from our descendants a nation that will submit to You. Show us our rituals, and turn to us in grace. You are truly the Accepter of Repentance, Most Merciful. Our Lord! Raise from among them a messenger who will recite to them Your revelations, teach them the Book and wisdom, and purify them. Indeed, You ˹alone˺ are the Almighty, All-Wise.” And who would reject the faith of Abraham except a fool! We certainly chose him in this life, and in the Hereafter he will surely be among the righteous.

After the warnings about religious rivalry, blocked mosques, and the Day of Judgment, the Quran now turns to Abraham (Ibrahim) — the father of monotheism, the builder of the Kaaba, and the man who was tested by God and passed every test.
These verses establish Abraham as a model — not Jewish, not Christian, but a hanif (pure monotheist) who submitted to God. They also contain his prayer for Mecca, his legacy to his sons, and a reminder that the only one who turns away from Abraham's path is a fool.
124    Abraham tested, passes, made a leader — but wrongdoers from his line not included    Good lineage doesn't guarantee anything. Righteousness is the real covenant.
125    Kaaba made a place of return, security, and prayer. Command to purify it.    Sacred spaces matter. They call you back and require maintenance.
126    Abraham prays for security and provision — Allah grants even disbelievers temporary enjoyment    Bad people get good things in this world. Don't be jealous. Their enjoyment is short.
127    Abraham and Ishmael build the Kaaba, praying for acceptance    Even prophets ask God to accept their deeds. Don't assume.
128    Praying for submission, a submissive nation, rites, and repentance    Worship needs form, not just feeling. And everyone needs repentance.
129    Praying for a messenger from among their descendants to teach, recite, and purify    Abraham prayed for Muhammad centuries before he came. Your prayers can reach beyond your life.
130    Only a fool turns away from Abraham's way    Abraham's path is simple: submission, good deeds, no nonsense. Why would anyone leave?

1–20    Three groups: Believers, Disbelievers, Hypocrites    Introduction: here's who is who.
21–39    Call to worship + Adam's creation and fall    You were made for stewardship. You fell. But mercy is there.
40–103    Children of Israel case study — in detail    Negative example: covenants broken, arrogance, hypocrisy, killing prophets, chasing magic, false claims.
104–123    Transition — commands, avoiding hypocrisy, the Day when labels don't matter    Warning: don't be like them. Seek approval only from God.
124–130    Abraham — the positive example    Here's what to be instead: tested and passed, submitted, built a house of worship, prayed for future generations, no arrogance, no exclusive claim.

Abraham was tested and passed, made a leader for all humanity, built the Kaaba as a place of return and security, prayed for a submissive nation and a messenger to come from his descendants — and only a fool turns away from this simple, universal path of submission and good deeds.
