DAY 449: Rum 51-60

  •  Then if We send a ˹harsh˺ wind which they see withering ˹their˺ crops, they will definitely deny ˹old favours˺ right after. So you ˹O Prophet˺ certainly cannot make the dead hear ˹the truth˺. Nor can you make the deaf hear the call when they turn their backs and walk away. Nor can you lead the blind out of their misguidance. You can make none hear ˹the truth˺ except those who believe in Our revelations, ˹fully˺ submitting ˹to Allah˺. It is Allah Who created you in a state of weakness, then developed ˹your˺ weakness into strength, then developed ˹your˺ strength into weakness and old age. He creates whatever He wills. For He is the All-Knowing, Most Capable. And on the Day the Hour will arrive, the wicked will swear that they did not stay ˹in this world˺ more than an hour. In this way they were always deluded ˹in the world˺. But those gifted with knowledge and faith will say ˹to them˺, “You did actually stay—as destined by Allah—until the Day of Resurrection. So here is the Day of Resurrection ˹which you denied˺! But you did not know ˹it was true˺.” So on that Day the wrongdoers’ excuses will not benefit them, nor will they be asked to repent. We have certainly set forth every ˹kind of˺ lesson for people in this Quran. And no matter what sign you bring to them ˹O Prophet˺, the disbelievers will definitely say ˹to the believers˺, “You are only a people of falsehood.” This is how Allah seals the hearts of those unwilling to know ˹the truth˺. So be patient, for the promise of Allah certainly is true. And do not be disturbed by those who have no sure faith.

This passage brings the surah toward its conclusion with a sharp critique of human impatience and despair, a response to the polytheists' mockery, and a powerful affirmation of the Prophet's mission. The tone becomes more direct, confrontational, and ultimately reassuring to the Prophet and the believers, addressing the psychological and emotional realities of calling people to faith in the face of denial and ridicule.

    The Limits of Earthly Guidance:
No believer can force guidance upon the spiritually deaf or blind; their duty is only to convey the message to those willing to listen
    The Stages of Human Life:
Allah creates humanity from weakness, then grants strength, then returns to weakness and old age—demonstrating His complete power over every stage of existence for all to reflect upon
The Illusion of Time on Judgment Day: The criminals will swear they remained in the grave only an hour, revealing how deluded they were about the reality of the Hereafter
    The Confirmation of Truth:
Those given knowledge and faith will affirm that the criminals remained exactly as Allah decreed until the Day of Resurrection, which they now face
No Excuses Remain: On that Day, no apology or plea will benefit the wrongdoers, and they will not be given any opportunity to make amends
The Stubbornness of Denial: Despite every example presented in the Qur'an, the disbelievers reject any sign and accuse the messengers of falsehood—not from lack of evidence but from arrogance
The Seal on Hearts: Allah seals the hearts of those who persist in willful ignorance, making them incapable of recognizing the truth
The Command to Persevere: All believers are commanded to be patient, for Allah's promise is truth, and they should not be disturbed by those who lack certainty in faith

Surah Ar-Rum concludes by reminding all believers that they cannot force guidance upon the stubborn—just as the Prophet could not—calling them to recognize the fragility of human gratitude, reflect on Allah's power over every stage of life, and persevere with patience grounded in the certainty of Allah's promise, unshaken by those whose hearts are sealed by persistent denial.
