DAY 454: Ankabut 45-55

•  Recite (O Prophet) what is revealed to you of the Book, and establish Salāh . Surely Salāh restrains one from shameful and evil acts. Indeed remembrance of Allah is the greatest of all things. Allah knows what you do. Do not debate with the people of the Book unless it is in the best manner, except with those of them who commit injustice. And say, “We believe in what is sent down to us and sent down to you, and our God and your God is One, and to Him we submit (ourselves).” Thus We have sent down the Book to you. So those to whom We have given the Book believe in it. And from these (the people of Makkah) there are ones who believe in it, and no one rejects Our verses except the infidels. You ˹O Prophet˺ could not read any writing ˹even˺ before this ˹revelation˺, nor could you write at all. Otherwise, the people of falsehood would have been suspicious. But this ˹Quran˺ is ˹a set of˺ clear revelations ˹preserved˺ in the hearts of those gifted with knowledge. And none denies Our revelations except the ˹stubborn˺ wrongdoers. They say, “If only ˹some˺ signs had been sent down to him from his Lord!” Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “Signs are only with Allah. And I am only sent with a clear warning.” Is it not enough for them that We have sent down to you the Book, ˹which is˺ recited to them. Surely in this ˹Quran˺ is a mercy and reminder for people who believe. Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “Sufficient is Allah as a Witness between me and you. He ˹fully˺ knows whatever is in the heavens and the earth. And those who believe in falsehood and disbelieve in Allah, it is they who are the ˹true˺ losers.” They challenge you ˹O Prophet˺ to hasten the punishment. Had it not been for a time already set, the punishment would have certainly come to them ˹at once˺. But it will definitely take them by surprise when they least expect it. They urge you to hasten the punishment. And Hell will certainly encompass the disbelievers on the Day when the punishment will envelop them from above them and from under their feet and He (Allah) will say, “Taste what you used to do.”

  These verses mark a significant shift. After the historical parables of previous prophets (Noah, Abraham, Lot, Shu'ayb, Hud, Salih) and the central metaphor of the spider's web, Allah now addresses the Prophet Muhammad directly — and through him, every believer who recites the Qur'an.

  "Follow closely what has been revealed to you of the Book, and establish the connection (with God) firmly. Indeed, that connection – when truly established – burns away immorality and wrongdoing. And the remembrance of Allah is greater. And Allah knows what you do."
