- Then how ˹horrible˺ will it be when the angels take their souls, beating their faces and backs! This is because they follow whatever displeases Allah and hate whatever pleases Him, so He has rendered their deeds void. Or do those with sickness in their hearts think that Allah will not ˹be able to˺ expose their malice? Had We willed, We could have truly shown them to you ˹O Prophet˺, and
you would have certainly recognized them by their appearance. But you
will surely recognize them by their tone of speech. And Allah ˹fully˺
knows your doings ˹O people˺. We will certainly expose you ˹believers˺ until We prove those of you who
˹truly˺ struggle ˹in Allah’s cause˺ and remain steadfast, and reveal how
you conduct yourselves. Indeed, those who disbelieve, hinder ˹others˺ from the Way of Allah, and
defy the Messenger after ˹true˺ guidance has become clear to them; they
will not harm Allah in the least, but He will render their deeds void. O believers! Obey Allah and obey the Messenger, and do not let your deeds be in vain. Surely those who disbelieve, hinder ˹others˺ from the Way of Allah, and then die as disbelievers; Allah will never forgive them. So do not falter or cry for peace, for you will have the upper hand and
Allah is with you. And He will never let your deeds go to waste. This worldly life is no more than play and amusement. But if you are
faithful and mindful ˹of Allah˺, He will grant you your ˹full˺ reward,
and will not ask you ˹to donate all˺ your wealth.

1. The Angels’ Severe Taking of Souls (Verse 27)
How will it be when the angels take their souls, striking their faces and their backs?
2. Following What Angers God (Verse 28)
That punishment is because they followed what angers God and hated what pleases Him, so He rendered their deeds worthless
3. The Hypocrites Exposed by Their Hatred (Verse 29)
Do those with diseased hearts think God will not expose their deep-seated malice?
4. Recognition by Tone and Speech (Verse 30)
If We willed, We could point them out to you, and you would recognize them by their tone; but God knows your deeds.
5. The Test of Struggle and Patience (Verse 31)
We will surely test you until We make evident those who strive among you and the patient, and We will test your affairs.
6. The Deeds of Disbelievers Are Nullified (Verse 32)
Those who disbelieve, avert others from God's path, and oppose the Messenger after guidance has become clear—they will never harm God at all, and He will render their deeds worthless.
7. The Command to Obey and Stay Firm (Verse 33)
O you who believe, obey God and obey the Messenger and do not invalidate your deeds.
8. The Fate of Persistent Disbelievers (Verse 34)
Those who disbelieve and avert from God’s path, then die as disbelievers—God will never forgive them.
9. The Call to Resolve and Not Sue for Peace (Verse 35)
So do not weaken and call for peace while you are superior; God is with you and will never deprive you of your deeds.
10. The Fleeting Nature of Worldly Life (Verse 36)
This worldly life is only play and diversion; if you believe and are righteous, He will give you your rewards and not ask you for all your wealth.
11. God’s Generosity vs. Human Greed (Verse 37–38)
If He were to demand all your wealth, you would withhold it with resentment, and He would expose your hidden malice. You are called to spend in God's cause, yet some are stingy; whoever is stingy is so only against himself. God is the Rich, and you are the poor; if you turn away, He will replace you with a better people unlike you.
The hypocrites and disbelievers face a violent death and utter ruin of their deeds because they despised what pleases God, while believers are commanded to remain steadfast through trials, spend generously, and never weaken, knowing that worldly life is fleeting and God can easily replace them if they turn away.
