DAY 515: Ali 'Imran 137-148

•  Similar situations came to pass before you, so travel throughout the land and see the fate of the deniers. This is an insight to humanity—a guide and a lesson to the God-fearing. Do not falter or grieve, for you will have the upper hand, if you are ˹true˺ believers. If you have suffered injuries ˹at Uḥud˺, they suffered similarly ˹at Badr˺. We alternate these days ˹of victory and defeat˺ among people so that Allah may reveal the ˹true˺ believers, choose martyrs from among you—and Allah does not like the wrongdoers— and distinguish the ˹true˺ believers and destroy the disbelievers. Do you think you will enter Paradise without Allah proving which of you ˹truly˺ struggled ˹for His cause˺ and patiently endured? You certainly wished ˹for the opportunity˺ for martyrdom before encountering it, now you have seen it with your own eyes. Muḥammad is no more than a messenger; other messengers have gone before him. If he were to die or to be killed, would you regress into disbelief? Those who do so will not harm Allah whatsoever. And Allah will reward those who are grateful. No soul can ever die without Allah’s Will at the destined time. Those who desire worldly gain, We will let them have it, and those who desire heavenly reward, We will grant it to them. And We will reward those who are grateful. ˹Imagine˺ how many devotees fought along with their prophets and never faltered despite whatever ˹losses˺ they suffered in the cause of Allah, nor did they weaken or give in! Allah loves those who persevere. And all they said was, “Our Lord! Forgive our sins and excesses, make our steps firm, and grant us victory over the disbelieving people.” So Allah gave them the reward of this world and the excellent reward of the Hereafter. For Allah loves the good-doers.

  The previous section covered the battle preparations, the near-collapse, and the call to race toward forgiveness. Now the Quran answers the emotional aftermath of Uhud with historical perspective, a theological anchor (Muhammad is mortal), the secret of true resilience, and the prayer that unlocks both worldly and eternal reward. It moves the believers from trauma to trust, from panic to patience.
  Verses 137-138: The Lessons of History
  Many nations have passed before you. Travel the earth and see the ruin of those who denied truth. The Quran is a clear declaration for all people, and guidance and instruction for the God-conscious.
  Verses 139-141: The Call to Resilience
  Don't weaken or grieve—you'll prevail if you're true believers. Your wound at Uhud mirrors their wound at Badr. God alternates victory and defeat to expose genuine faith, to honor some with martyrdom, to purify the believers, and to gradually destroy the disbelievers.
  Verses 142-143: The Cost of Paradise
  Do you think you'll enter Paradise without God testing who truly struggles and who is patient? You used to wish for death in battle—now you've seen it face to face and some of you fled.
  Verse 144: Muhammad is a Messenger, Not Immortal
  Muhammad is only a messenger; others passed before him. If he dies or is killed, will you abandon your faith? Turning back harms God not at all, but He rewards the grateful who stay firm.
  Verses 145-146: Life and Death Are in God's Hands
  No soul dies without God's decree. Seek the world's reward, you'll get some; seek the Hereafter, you'll get that. Many prophets fought with devoted followers who never lost heart, weakened, or surrendered despite their wounds—and God loves the patient.
  Verses 147-148: Their Prayer and Their Reward
  Their only words in battle were: "Lord, forgive our sins and excesses, make our feet firm, and grant us victory." God gave them worldly reward and the best reward of the Hereafter. And God loves the doers of good.
  
  Study the ruins of history, don't weaken or grieve over your wounds because victory and defeat rotate by God's design to test and purify you, Paradise demands proven struggle and patience, Muhammad is a mortal messenger so anchor your faith in God not a man, no soul dies outside God's decree, the true believers before you prayed humbly in battle and never lost heart, and God loves the patient and the doers of good—rewarding them in this world and the next.
