DAY 511: Ali 'Imran 92-99

•  You will never achieve righteousness until you donate some of what you cherish. And whatever you give is certainly well known to Allah. All food was lawful for the children of Israel, except what Israel made unlawful for himself before the Torah was revealed. Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “Bring the Torah and read it, if your claims are true.” Then whoever still fabricates lies about Allah, they will be the ˹true˺ wrongdoers. Say, “Allah has told the truth. So, follow the Faith of Ibrāhīm, the upright one. He was not one of those who ascribe partners to Allah.” The first house set up for the people is surely the one in Makkah having blessings and guidance for all the worlds. In it are clear signs and the standing-place of Abraham. Whoever enters it should be safe. Pilgrimage to this House is an obligation by Allah upon whoever is able among the people. And whoever disbelieves, then surely Allah is not in need of ˹any of His˺ creation. Say, “O people of the Book, why do you reject the verses of Allah while Allah is witness to what you do?” Say, “O People of the Book! Why do you turn the believers away from the Way of Allah—striving to make it ˹appear˺ crooked, while you are witnesses ˹to its truth˺? And Allah is never unaware of what you do.”

  The previous section ended with the covenant of prophets and the fate of those who die in disbelief. Now the Quran addresses the believers directly about the cost of true righteousness (v.92), then dismantles a specific Jewish objection about food laws as a distraction from the real issue—Abrahamic monotheism (v.93-95), anchors the faith in the first house of worship built by Abraham (v.96-97), and finally returns to confront those who know the truth but actively work to hide it and mislead others (v.98-99). It's a seamless blend of internal community guidance and external theological challenge.
  Verse 92: The Price of Righteousness
  You will never reach true righteousness until you give away what you actually love—not leftovers, but the things your heart clings to. God knows every sacrifice, no matter how hidden.
  Verses 93-95: The Food Laws and the Test of Honesty
  All food was lawful for Israel's children before the Torah, except what Jacob voluntarily gave up. The Quran challenges: bring the Torah and read it if you're truthful. Inventing lies about God's law makes you a wrongdoer. The real point is following Abraham's pure faith.
  Verses 96-97: The First House and the Obligation of Hajj
  The Kaaba in Mecca is the first house of worship built for all humanity, blessed, full of clear signs including Abraham's standing place. Pilgrimage to it is a duty on all who can reach it. Rejecting it is disbelief, but God needs nothing from anyone.
  Verses 98-99: The Concealers of Truth
  Two sharp questions to the People of the Book: why reject God's signs while He watches you? And why actively obstruct believers from God's path, twisting it crooked, while you know the truth? God is fully aware of everything you do.
  
  True righteousness demands giving what you love, not arguing about food laws while ignoring Abraham's pure faith, recognizing the Kaaba as humanity's first house of worship and fulfilling pilgrimage, and answering why you reject and obstruct God's path while knowing the truth—God sees it all.
