- And ˹when˺ it is said to those mindful ˹of Allah˺, “What has your Lord
revealed?” They say, “All the best!” For those who do good in this
world, there is goodness. But far better is the ˹eternal˺ Home of the
Hereafter. How excellent indeed is the home of the righteous: the Gardens of Eternity which they will enter, under which rivers flow.
In it they will have whatever they desire. This is how Allah rewards the
righteous— those whose souls the angels take while they are virtuous, saying ˹to
them˺, “Peace be upon you! Enter Paradise for what you used to do.” Are they only awaiting the coming of the angels or the command of your
Lord ˹O Prophet˺? So were those before them. And Allah never wronged
them, but it was they who wronged themselves. Then the evil ˹consequences˺ of their deeds overtook them, and they were overwhelmed by what they used to ridicule. The polytheists argue, “Had Allah willed, neither we nor our forefathers
would have worshipped anything other than Him, nor prohibited anything
without His command.” So did those before them. Is not the messengers’
duty only to deliver ˹the message˺ clearly?

The Perfect Dichotomy: These verses complete the contrasting pairs established earlier:
Answer to Revelation: Goodness (30) vs. Ancient Fables (24).
Death Scene: Angels of Peace (32) vs. Angels of Confrontation (28).
Final Abode: Gardens of Eternity (31) vs. Gates of Hell (29).
This contrast vindicates the believers and justifies the warning to the disbelievers.
The Closure of Divine Justice: The section reinforces that Allah's system is perfectly just. Punishment is only the "evil consequences" of one's own deeds catching up (v.34), and reward is a gracious recompense for righteousness (v.31). The core principle is restated: "Allah did not wrong them, but they used to wrong themselves" (v.33).
Refutation of the Final Excuse: By addressing and dismissing the polytheists' fatalistic excuse, the passage closes off every possible avenue of argument. Denial is a conscious, responsible choice.
Comfort and Assurance for Believers: In the context of Meccan persecution, this passage served as powerful consolation. It assured the small, oppressed community of believers that their steadfastness and their simple answer ("Goodness") would lead to an unimaginably glorious victory and peace, while their arrogant oppressors would face utter ruin.
To the righteous who affirm the revelation as "Goodness," Allah promises a beautiful life and an eternal Paradise of peace—a just reward that stands in perfect, contrasting balance to the self-inflicted ruin awaiting the arrogant deniers, thus completing the divine equation of justice.
