DAY 352: Zukhruf 57-67

  •  When the example of the son of Maryam was cited, your people started at once shouting at it (in joy), and they exclaimed, “Which is better: our gods or Jesus?” They cite him only to argue. In fact, they are a people prone to dispute. He was only a servant We showed favour to, and made as an example for the Children of Israel. Had We willed, We could have easily replaced you ˹all˺ with angels, succeeding one another on earth. And his ˹second˺ coming is truly a sign for the Hour. So have no doubt about it, and follow me. This is the Straight Path. And do not let Satan hinder you, ˹for˺ he is certainly your sworn enemy. When Jesus came with clear proofs, he declared, “I have come to you with wisdom, and to clarify to you some of what you differ about. So fear Allah, and obey me. Surely Allah ˹alone˺ is my Lord and your Lord, so worship Him ˹alone˺. This is the Straight Path.” Then different groups, out of them, fell into disagreement. so woe to the wrongdoers when they face the torment of a painful Day! Are they waiting for the Hour to take them by surprise when they least expect ˹it˺? Close friends will be enemies to one another on that Day, except the righteous,
    (
It moves the critique beyond the civilization’s specific faults—their mockery of revelation, their hypocrisy in assigning daughters to God, their pride in wealth and ancestry, and their pattern of denial seen in Pharaoh—and declares that on the Day of Judgment, all worldly alliances and contentious debates will collapse into mutual enmity, leaving only the God-conscious united in truth.
"Close friends will be enemies" speaks to the ultimate failure of all worldly loyalties—whether based on family, ethnicity, social class, political party, or corporate interest—when they are placed above divine truth and moral righteousness. At the moment of ultimate accountability, those we followed into error will become our accusers.
The "righteous" (al-muttaqūn) who are exempt from this enmity are defined not by tribe or era, but by a universal quality: God-consciousness, piety, and adherence to the straight path of monotheism and moral integrity.

From False Debates to True Faith: It moves the discussion from the Quraysh's contentious, insincere debates (about daughters of God, status of prophets) to the singular, straight path of worshipping God alone, as taught by all true prophets, including Jesus.
The Ultimate Priority: It makes the Day of Judgment the central, inescapable reality that renders all their arguments trivial. The question is not "Which god is better?" but "Are you prepared for the Day when every false allegiance will fail you?"
The Final Verdict on ‘Asabiyyah (Tribal Blind Loyalty): The surah began by critiquing blind following of ancestors. It ends by showing the ultimate consequence of that loyalty: on Judgment Day, those you followed and those you followed with will become your bitterest enemies. The only saving bond is the conscious, chosen bond of shared piety and truth

Reject hollow contention → Heed the unified call of all prophets to worship God alone → Build your eternal alliances on shared righteousness → And be prepared for the Day when every other bond will fail.
