DAY 346: Shura 36-46

•  So, whatever thing has been given to you is an enjoyment of the worldly life. And that which is with Allah is much better, and much more durable for those who believe and place their trust in Allah, and (for) those who abstain from the major sins and from shameful acts; and (for those who) when they get angry, they forgive, and those who have responded to their Lord (in submission to Him), and have established Salāh, and whose affairs are (settled) with mutual consultation between them, and who spend out of what We have given to them, and those who, when they are subjected to aggression, defend themselves. The reward of an evil deed is its equivalent. But whoever pardons and seeks reconciliation, then their reward is with Allah. He certainly does not like the wrongdoers. There is no blame on those who enforce justice after being wronged. Blame is only on those who wrong people and transgress in the land unjustly. It is they who will suffer a painful punishment. And whoever endures patiently and forgives—surely this is a resolve to aspire to. And whoever Allah leaves to stray will have no guide after Him. You will see the wrongdoers, when they face the torment, pleading, “Is there any way back ˹to the world˺?” And you will see them exposed to the Fire, fully humbled out of disgrace, stealing glances ˹at it˺. And the believers will say, “The ˹true˺ losers are those who have lost themselves and their families on Judgment Day.” The wrongdoers will certainly be in everlasting torment. They will have no protectors to help them against Allah. And whoever Allah leaves to stray, for them there is no way.

  Verses  mark a decisive shift from theological argument and cosmic signs to the practical characteristics and ultimate destinies of the two groups in conflict: the disbelievers and the believers. It defines the true "success" and provides a poignant portrait of the Final Day.
  
  Having established Allah's absolute wisdom behind the distribution of worldly trials (27-35), the surah now answers: "So what should one actually do? What does the 'success' that you choose look like in practice?" This passage provides the tangible profile of the believer and contrasts it with the psychological state and dreadful end of the rejecter.
  
  For Believers:
      Obedience: Responding to Allah's call.
      Spiritual Discipline: Establishing prayer (iqamat as-salah), the direct link to Allah.
      Social Governance: Conducting affairs through mutual consultation (shura). This is a revolutionary concept for tribal, autocratic Arabia, establishing a community based on shared counsel.
      Economic Responsibility: Spending charitably from their provision. This is the practical outworking of understanding wealth as a trust from Allah.
      
  For Disbelievers: 
      The Lost: Those Allah has confirmed in misguidance (due to their own persistent choice) have no helper.
  The Scene: The wrongdoers are shown seeing the Punishment. Their only question is a desperate, hopeless wish for a "way back" to the worldly life. They are exposed to the Fire, in a state of absolute humiliation, able only to steal furtive, terrified glances.
  The Believers' Verdict: From their secure position, the believers observe and state the objective truth: The real losers are those who have lost their own souls and their families. The punishment is eternal
  
      Profile of the Successful Believer: Defined by reliance on Allah, moral purity, forgiveness, prayer, consultation, charity, and the courage to defend against tyranny.
      The Islamic Scale of Justice: Establishes a hierarchy: Permissible retribution → Preferred pardon and reconciliation. It legitimizes self-defense while condemning aggression.
      The Ultimate Contrast: Moves from the earthly conduct of the two groups to their inescapable final scenes: the wrongdoers in humiliated despair, the believers bearing witness to divine justice.
      The Finality of Choice: The suhammeres home that the choices made in life—to heed or reject, to oppress or forgive—culminate in a reality where no alternatives or helpers exist. The path one chooses becomes their permanent state.
   
      The true success granted by Allah belongs to those believers who, while patiently enduring injustice, combine moral purity with communal consultation and charity, and who will ultimately witness the ruin of the wrongdoers they forgave in this life.
