DAY 152: A'raf 175-178

•  Recite to them the story of the one whom We gave Our verses, but he abandoned them, so Satan took hold of him, and he became  of those who went astray. If We had willed, We would have elevated him with Our signs, but he clung to this life—following his evil desires. His example is that of a dog: if you chase it away, it pants, and if you leave it, it ˹still˺ pants. This is the example of the people who deny Our signs. So narrate ˹to them˺ stories ˹of the past˺, so perhaps they will reflect.  What an evil example of those who denied Our signs! They ˹only˺ wronged their own souls. Whoever Allah guides is truly guided. And whoever He leaves to stray, they are the ˹true˺ losers.

   Presents a stark parable about a man who was given divine knowledge but chose worldly desires over truth—leading to his spiritual ruin. These verses serve as a warning against intellectual arrogance and a reminder of the consequences of abandoning guidance.
  The Man Who Abandoned Divine Knowledge
      Who is This Man?:  it’s a general parable for any scholar/wise person who betrays truth.     He "detached himself" (intazara) from Allah’s signs—meaning he:   Knew the truth but willfully ignored it.     Used his knowledge to justify evil (like corrupt scholars today).
          When he abandoned truth, Satan "pursued him"—showing how deviation begins with a choice to turn away. A warning against using religious knowledge for fame, power, or wealth (e.g., justifying oppression).
  The Parable of the Dog:
      Simile of the Dog:    A dog pants whether chased or left alone—it’s restless by nature.   Similarly, this man’s soul was never at peace:
              Chased by truth → He fled (panting in anxiety).
              Left to desires → He remained unsatisfied (still panting).
          Those who reject divine signs live in perpetual spiritual emptiness, no matter their worldly status.
  The Ultimate Loss:
      Self-Destruction:    Denying Allah’s signs isn’t just ignorance—it’s "wronging themselves" (ظَالِمِيْنَ).     Example: A doctor who knows smoking kills but does it anyway.   
  Allah guides those who seek truth (like the magicians who prostrated).   Those who choose arrogance (like Pharaoh) are "left" to their misguidance—a consequence of their free will.
  
  Allah warns of those who possess knowledge but trade it for desires—like a dog panting endlessly, they ruin their souls; true guidance belongs only to those who humble themselves before divine signs.
