DAY 186: Maryam 51-58

•  And mention in the Book ˹ the story of˺ Moses. He was truly a chosen man, and was a messenger and a prophet. We called him from the right side of Mount Ṭûr, and drew him near, speaking ˹with him˺ directly. And We appointed for him—out of Our grace—his brother, Aaron, as a prophet. And mention in the Book ˹ the story of˺ Ishmael. He was truly a man of his word, and was a messenger and a prophet. He used to enjoin Salāh and Zakāh upon his family, And his Lord was well pleased with him. And mention in the Book ˹ the story of˺ Enoch (Idris). He was surely a man of truth and a prophet. And We elevated him to an honourable status. Those were ˹some of˺ the prophets who Allah has blessed from among the descendants of Adam, and of those We carried with Noah ˹in the Ark˺, and of the descendants of Abraham and Israel, and of those We ˹rightly˺ guided and chose. Whenever the revelations of the Most Compassionate were recited to them, they fell down, prostrating and weeping. Then came after them the successors who neglected Salāh and followed (their selfish) desires. So they will soon face (the outcome of their) deviation.

  From the story of Prophet Ibrāhīm (Abraham) to a series of other prophets—Mūsā (Moses), Ismāʿīl (Ishmael), Idrīs (Enoch)—before concluding with a warning about later generations who abandoned their covenant with Allah.
      Mūsā,Continuity of Revelation: Like Ibrāhīm and ʿĪsā, Mūsā upheld Tawḥīd (monotheism) against corruption (Pharaoh’s tyranny).
      Leadership Model: His reliance on Hārūn shows the importance of unity in da’wah.
         Ismāʿīl, Correcting Judeo-Christian Bias: The Bible often sidelines Ismāʿīl, but the Quran honors him as a prophet and ancestor of the Arabs.
      Covenant Keeper: His obedience contrasts with the later generations criticized in verses 58–59.   
      Idrīs appears only briefly in the Quran (here and in Surah Al-Anbiyā’ 21:85), emphasizing that righteousness—not fame—determines status with Allah.
      
  After listing righteous prophets, Allah condemns later people who:
          Abandoned the covenant of their forefathers (19:58).
          Neglected prayer and followed lusts (19:59).
  They will face Hell unless they repent (19:59).
      
          Historical Lesson: Even the descendants of great prophets can deviate (e.g., Jews/Christians after Mūsā/ʿĪsā).
  
      Modern Relevance: A call to Muslims to  enjoin Salāh and Zakāh in faith.
      
      "These were the ones Allah guided, so follow their guidance" (6:90). Surah Maryam’s closing verses urge us to learn from the prophets—not just admire them.
