DAY 118: Sad 21-26

•  Has the story of the litigants reached you  of those who entered David’s private chambers by climbing over the wall? When they entered upon Dawūd, and he was scared of them, they said, “Be not scared. We are two litigants; one of us has wronged the other, so decide between us with truth, and do not cross the limits, and guide us to the right path. This is my brother. He has ninety-nine sheep while I have (only) one. (Still) he asked me to give it up to him, overwhelming me with (his) argument.”  David  ruled, “He has definitely wronged you in demanding ˹to add˺ your sheep to his. And certainly many partners wrong each other, except those who believe and do good—but how few are they!” Then David realized that We had tested him so he asked for his Lord’s forgiveness, fell down in prostration, and turned (to Him in repentance). So We forgave that for him. And he will indeed have ˹a status of˺ closeness to Us and an honourable destination! (We instructed him:) “O David! We have surely made you an authority in the land, so judge between people with truth. And do not follow (your˺)desires or they will lead you astray from Allah’s Way. Surely those who go astray from Allah’s Way will suffer a severe punishment for neglecting the Day of Reckoning.”

      Accountability for Leaders: Dawud, a prophet and king, was tested more severely due to his authority—a lesson for those in power.
      Repentance Over Perfection: Even prophets erred, but their instant humility distinguished them.
      Allah’s Mercy: Forgiveness is granted to those who acknowledge faults and turn back sincerely.   
       A Test in Fair Judgment;
      The Two Men’s Dispute;   They enter Dawud’s private chamber unexpectedly.    One man says: "My brother has 99 ewes, while I have one. He demands mine and overpowered me in speech."        Key Point: This is a legal case about greed and oppression—not a metaphor for wives.
      Dawud’s Initial Response ;      He quickly rules: "He has wronged you by demanding your ewe."       Possible Error: Did he judge too hastily without hearing the other side? The Quran hints at this.
      Allah’s Correction;    "O Dawud, We made you a ruler on earth. Judge between people with truth (Haqq), and do not follow desire (hawa)..."
              Rulers must ensure both sides are heard before judging. Avoid letting power or assumptions cloud fairness. He instantly realizes this was a test in justice—not about sheep, but about his duty as a leader.
  He prostrates and repents, and Allah forgives him.   
      Leadership Requires Fair Process: Dawud (عليه السلام) was reminded to hear both sides before ruling.
      Power Demands Humility: Even prophets are tested in their duties—Dawud’s instant repentance shows his purity.
      Quranic Clarity > Extraneous Stories: The text focuses on justice, not scandal.
